Spotlight on Coppice Valley
03/12/24
We’re thrilled to feature Coppice Valley as our very first school in the Spotlight on Schools series. Their innovative and impactful Coppice Community Hub exemplifies the power of schools working at the heart of their communities to provide meaningful, long-term support.
The Coppice Community Hub is a welcoming, accessible resource centre located in a small, shed-style building on the school grounds. It’s thoughtfully designed to help families access a range of resources, including:
- Preloved school uniforms
- Books
- Essential food parcels
- Printed information about local events, services, and support systems
One of the standout features of the Hub is its accessibility. Families can drop in without an appointment, both during and outside school hours, ensuring support is available whenever it’s needed. During drop-off and pick-up times, a staff member is present to offer advice, guidance, and a friendly face.
The Hub itself was made possible through grant funding, which supported its construction and helped provide essential resources for families experiencing financial hardship, including food, coats, shoes, and bedding. The project’s sustainability is ensured through ongoing funding generated by the school’s clothes bank.
Since its opening, the Hub has become a well-used space, with high footfall during busy school times. The team is monitoring resource usage and support requests to better understand and respond to the needs of the school community.
Coppice Valley’s Community Hub is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when schools embrace their role as community champions. We’re proud to highlight their work and look forward to seeing the continued positive impact of this initiative.
